The real estate industry has become increasingly complicated over the last decade.  With technology changing the way we do business and iBuyers competing for listing inventory that is already sparse it has become more and more difficult to stay relevant and earn business.  Add to that the 16,000 + real estate agents in the Orlando market competing for a finite number of deals and you’ll soon understand why joining a team might be the right fit for you.

It is predicted that by 2021 one in three agents will be on a real estate team.  I learned that staggering prediction at Keller Williams Mega Camp in August.  And, well…I kind of get it.  I mean I started in real estate in 2006.  Over the last 13 years I have learned a lot and have grown every single year but it’s been an uphill battle.  The reality is that not everyone is cut out to be a business owner and yet that is what real estate is.  If you are a single agent, you own a small business.  You just don’t have any employees which makes you responsible for everything and it means you have to know a lot about a lot of things.  Clients expect you to be an expert so if you want to be successful you have to constantly seek out new information to be the best.

What happens to most agents is they burn out or get out.  Only 30% of real estate agents will make it past 2 years in the industry.  By joining a team they almost double their chances of success.  Simply by joining a team you have a 50-60% chance to still be selling real estate after 2 years.

That information is probably enough to get most people excited about the prospect of joining a team.  But you need to understand joining a team is like getting a job.  You’re no longer the business owner, and you are going to be held accountable to someone else’s standards.  Both you and the business owner should be sure your standards are in alignment or it won’t be a fit.  What you will find with a solid team is structure, accountability, and the ability to be a specialist in one thing.  You don’t have to figure it all out anymore!

But don’t think being on a team is an easy ride, you still have to be a productive member of the team.  If you can’t convert and produce it isn’t a win for the organization.  You should still strive to do more, learn more, and seek your best.  No one wants a team member who is just along for the ride and you don’t want to be somewhere that doesn’t support your goals.

By joining a real estate team you can turn a 10 year trajectory of income and experience into a 2 year path to success.   Why?  Because you’ll actually be learning through an established business and from someone who has already been in the trenches.  And you’ll have actual clients and deals to work with and learn through real experiences not just taking a bunch of classes. With double the chance of success it is kind of a no brainer to join a team!
